Authorities have recovered the body of a bridge inspector who was swept away in the Passaic River, law enforcement sources confirmed for News 12 New Jersey.
The body of 47-year-old Efrain Grajeda was found Wednesday near the Union Avenue bridge in Rutherford.
Authorities say Grajeda was inspecting a bridge Monday near a brook that feeds into the Passaic River when heavy rains pounded the area. Grajeda slipped off the bridge and was swept away in the water.
The 47-year-old lived in Millstone Township and was working for a company called TranSystems.
"TranSystems suffered a great loss this week with the passing of our employee Efrain Grajeda in an accident on the job site," the company said in a statement. "Our first thoughts are with Efrain's family. We express our heartfelt sympathy to them, his colleagues, and the many people whose lives he touched in his professional and personal life."
