Bob’s Discount Furniture is opening its newest location in Bridgewater this weekend.

The large furniture chain will hold a special event at the Bridgewater Promenade Saturday morning.

The opening of the new location comes on the heels of the closing of several prominent retail businesses.

Payless ShoeSource recently announced it would close all its remaining stores in the United States, including all 24 locations in New Jersey.

Iconic toy store Toys R Us, originally based out of Wayne, also recently closed all of its locations. But former Toys R Us executives say that the retailer will return under a new name, with a new strategy.

New Jersey lawmakers recently created a law that would change severance pay for workers who lose their jobs in a mass layoff.

Officials with several of these businesses that closed say that brick-and-mortar stores just can’t compete with online retailers like Amazon.

The Bob’s Outreach Team will donate $5,000 to local schools as part of the opening celebration.
