Firefighters responded Tuesday morning to a Chatham manufacturing company after flames filled a room that apparently is used to store chemicals.
Firefighters used foam instead of water to put out the blaze inside the National Manufacturing Company on the corner of River Road and Watchung Avenue. Chatham Fire Chief Pete Glogolich said the fire department will stay vigilant.
"It could get out of hand. It's flammable once the vapors start to burn as we saw today," says Glogolich. "The tank they use is actually a polycarbonate tank, which may have also been compromised. We still have to get in there and find that out. But all the smoke has stopped, which indicates the fire is out.
"We'll just have to wait for the investigative part now and we'll see where we stand."
A company employee told News 12 New Jersey that one worker did suffer from smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital.
