A postal worker in Berkeley Heights helped save the life of a resident she delivers mail to.
Princepelina Mendez has been delivering mail for 24 years, 15 of those years to Salvatore Melillo, whom she refers to as Uncle Sal.
Earlier this month, Mendez went to his house and found the door slightly open. She came back the next day, and found the door completely open, with Uncle Sal passed out on the floor. Mendez stayed with him until EMS came.
She didn't tell anyone at work what happened, and actually got reprimanded for being off the clock for 20 minutes until Uncle Sal's family came forward.
The post office, along with Uncle Sal's family, honored Princepelina today for saving his life.
Uncle Sal is currently in the ICU and expected to make a full recovery.
