A wake was held in New Canaan Monday for the Norwalk Fire Department's longtime chaplain Monsignor William Scheyd.
"He was always there for us, day after day, year after year -- and we all loved him and respected him and will miss him," Norwalk Fire Lt. Scott Rywolt told News 12 Monday, on the eve of Schyed's funeral.

"Monsignor Scheyd was such a kind and devoted person and it's heartbreaking to say farewell to him," Rywolt said.
Scheyd passed away last week after serving the Norwalk Fire Department for 56 years, Rywolt said.
