Tonight the cleanup continues in Bedford Park. A massive water main break on Monday night left cars, apartments, and businesses all flooded. Thanks for being with us here on News 12 The Bronx. I'm Amanda Bossert. News2's Heather Fordham is joining us tonight from Webster Avenue, where crews continue to chip away at repairs, and Heather, this seems to be quite the process. Amanda, I mean, what a difference one day can make. Yesterday behind me was completely underwater. My feet would be buried in the water, but today what's left is a muddy mess, and emergency crews have been here all day long working to make those repairs. But in the meantime, power has been shut off for a majority of people here on Webster Avenue, and they questioned tonight when will this all be cleaned up. Mud swept from streets. Water pumped from basements. It's been an all hands on deck effort to clean up Webster Avenue. The destruction caused by a 48 inch water main break on Monday night. It sent cars underwater, turned businesses and apartments into swimming pools. Right now we have gas shut off to somewhere between 1313 buildings. We will be shutting down power to a couple of blocks. Natalie Diaz trekked home through the flooded streets to find her apartment pitch black. It's just horrible. It's a lot of people are getting gallons of water. Guided by herself from light, Diaz and her daughter packed their bags to stay with family. It's a shame that there's no security there. It's so scary. It's like we are on the 6th floor and we had my flashlight on the phone and we were like so scared because like it's like a terrible movie. Most of the block is left in the dark so emergency crews can safely investigate and make repairs. The American Red Cross is on site connecting with people in need. I heard from one tenant who said that all of their heat, all of their stoves are electric, and so they're really just wondering what they're going to do tonight, and those are the type of people we want to have come down here and talk to us so we can figure out how to help them the best that we can. The hope for families. Pray that this is fixed by Christmas. Now the good news is water has been restored to all of these apartments and businesses here on Webster Avenue. The bad news, there's still no timeline on when power will be coming back on right now. Bedford Park from Bedford Park Boulevard. We continue to bring you the latest surrounding the brutal aftermath of the water main break in Bedford Park, and News Twelve's Aurora Folks joins us from the scene on Webster Avenue with the latest details and a promising update, Aurora. Yes, Amanda, most businesses and residents in the area are just finding their bearings after dealing with the loss of gas and electricity for over a week. Thanks to New York City Emergency management department today many are able to find some relief. For over a week, many residents in the area have now been able to have a hot meal, lunch, and snacks provided by the Red Cross, and will continue until Sunday, December 29th, as they reel in from the devastating water main break that nearly destroyed Webster Avenue. Today the New York City Emergency Management Department has stepped in to bring some more positive news, stating power has finally been restored to botanical square buildings with more individual units estimated to receive power in the coming days. Neighbors are now reacting to the good news. I missing the gas and electricity. It was hard, you know what I mean? We had to go buy some water even though they give us some water in the beginning, but, and that was and that was enough. I mean thank God that everything is OK so far. Now the New York City Emergency Manager department also says that building manager will also be providing electric cooking plates as sewer cleaning and maintenance continues here on Webster Avenue in Bedford Park, where folks? A Bedford Park landlord is working around the clock to get his buildings back together after Monday's water main break in this news 2 exclusive, he shows Saida Abbas the damage he's still dealing with apartments ripped apart. That's, uh, that's difficult to describe. Yeah, I've, I've seen a lot, um, I've seen a lot of families, uh, you know, just desperate for. warm apartments. Landlord Tyler Stag is working day in and day out to restore the buildings at 29852987 and 2999 Webster Avenue after Monday's water main break. Covered in dust and gutted, this room used to be someone's apartment and this area a daycare. Difficult, um, but we did everything in our power to restore all electric and gas in every single unit as of last night at about midnight, so we worked around the clock. Stag is working on the hot water situation and the elevators before the holidays. Thankfully, only 4 tenants had to be relocated to other locations, um, and. The commercial spaces that are in front. You can see cleanup crews working hard in the freezing temperatures so tenants can feel at home again. Stack tells me he thinks the cleanup and construction will be done by the middle of January in Bedford Park. I'm Sea Abbas, 12.

The aftermath of Monday night's water main break not only affected residents and businesses but drivers too. Dozens of cars are now trapped in a parking garage. I mean you can see for yourself, and one of those drivers exclusively spoke with News Twelve's Eli Murillo as he struggles to figure out what's next. Cab driver Francisco Castro has parked in spot number 25 inside this Bedford Park Boulevard garage for the last decade. His car now stuck in that same spot after Monday night's water main break. Now he's jobless with no solution in sight from his insurance, leaning on city resources to move forward. If we walk deeper and deeper into this parking garage, you can observe. Cars with broken glass and it is completely covered in mud. Like many others, Francisco hopes his car can be restored before the holidays in Bedford Park, Eli Murillo, News 12, the Bronx. Now we also reached out to the New York Botanical Garden, who owns the public parking garage for comment on how they're helping drivers affected. We'll let you know when we hear back.
