The iconic Avon Pavilion has closed after 33 years of service.
On Tuesday, the staff posted a goodbye on Facebook, which has garnered over 500 comments filled with memories from the past decades.
In 2012, Hurricane Sandy destroyed the restaurant and most of the boardwalk. In 2013, it reopened under a tent before being rebuilt as restaurant people know today.
Due to health reasons and the end of a contract, the owners and management of Avon decided now was the time to walk away.
Many are mourning the loss of the beloved restaurant.
“We've been together and built a beautiful place right here on Avon by The Sea boardwalk,” said chef Ken Samuels.
The borough will hold a public bidding for the leasing of the restaurant building and boutique.
It is expected to be a highly sought-after lease for the next management team.
Samuels hopes that whoever acquires the lease builds a new legacy.
“There's a lot of love in this community, and I just hope that whoever buys or leases it next makes it a staple and a place for happy memories,” he said.
