Police officers shot and killed a pit bull while conducting a traffic stop in Ringwood, authorities say.
The incident happened on Monday.
Police say that Wanaque police tried to pull over a tractor-trailer hauling luxury boats that was driving erratically. The truck eventually pulled over with help from the Ringwood Police Department on Greenwood Lake Turnpike.
Police say that a pit bull was inside of the truck with the driver. Police say that the driver was warned to keep the dog contained, but it got out and charged at police.
Two Ringwood police officers shot and killed the pit bull. Wanaque police took the driver into custody for traffic violations.
The incident is under investigation.
