Authorities: 2 heroin rings busted, 7 Bronx residents arrested
Several Bronx residents are facing drug charges after the Drug Enforcement Administration busted two alleged heroin rings.
Authorities say the bust took place at 1049 Boynton St. on Sept. 25. They say members of the Drug Enforcement Task Force seized heroin from one vehicle and an apartment building.
Officials say the apartment served as a heroin "mill," where large amounts of the drug were processed and packaged.
Officials say that at around 8 p.m. on Sept. 25, the leader of the group, identified by law enforcement as Jose DeJesus, entered the building. Soon after, officials say DeJesus came out with a large laundry bag and put it in the back of a car. Police say they then stopped and searched the car, where they found packages full of heroin.
The DEA has confirmed that nine people were arrested from both heroin rings. Seven of those arrested are from the Bronx.
Officials say it was relatively easy for the two rings to house the drug because they had easy access to highways and houses that were easily concealed.
The DEA and its partners say this effort is the first step to combating heroin abuse.
