Police are searching for multiple suspects involved in an armed carjacking that took place over the weekend at the Ronkonkoma train station, leaving commuters shaken and concerned for their safety.
According to Suffolk County Police, the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Long Island Rail Road station. Two people were sitting in a parked Mercedes-Benz when they were approached by multiple suspects armed with what appeared to be handguns.
Police say the suspects drove off with the Mercedes, along with a cellphone and a wallet containing cash. Police say the victims were not physically harmed during the incident.
The carjacking has prompted concern among local commuters, many of whom use the parking lot regularly and say they never expected something like this to happen so close to home.
“We park there all the time,” said Kyra Becker, of Port Jefferson. “We have to make sure to take our valuables out. We didn’t think something like that would ever happen.”
Police say no arrests have been made as of Wednesday. Authorities also confirmed that there have been no other similar robberies reported in the county at this time.
