Archdiocese of Newark to begin reopening churches for private prayer
The Archdiocese of Newark announced Saturday that churches will open for private prayer only as New Jersey goes into Phase One of reopening.
It says churches will reopen Sunday, but it is asking people not to attend any Mass. The churches will be open during limited and designated hours, and people will only be able to do quiet prayer.
The archdiocese also says a member of the parish must be in the church to make sure social distancing and sanitizing are happening. It also says that the churches must provide hand sanitizer, masks must be worn by everyone in the church, holy water fonts must be empty and confessionals can't be used.
