A flight from Newark to St. Louis was diverted Thursday after a dog was mistakenly loaded onto the plane. The dog was dropped off in Akron, Ohio.
United Airlines released a statement that said in part, “The pet has been safely delivered to its owner. We provided compensation to all customers on board for the diversion.”
This is the third pet mishandling incident United has had to deal with in a week.
A 10-year-old German shepherd was also accidentally flown to Japan on Tuesday. The dog was supposed to go to Kansas City. But when his owner went to pick him up, she was met with a great dane who should've been in Japan instead.
And a French bulldog died Monday on a flight from Houston to New York when a flight attendant placed the dog into an overhead bin. Animal cruelty officials from Texas are investigating the incident.
United Airlines launched a new policy in the wake of the death. Brightly colored tags will be placed on all animal carriers for now on.
