An annual film festival held at the Jersey Shore will be conducted a little differently this year to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
The organizers of the Lighthouse International Film Festival said that they had to make a decision this year - either scrap the festival because of the pandemic or make it virtual. They then got the idea to make part of the event a drive-in movie.
Executive Director Amir Bogen says that the decision was made within the last few weeks.
“When we started to work on the logistics and the production, we said, ‘This is really, really complicated. But still, we’re going to do it,’” he says.
They have been marking off parking spaces for social distancing and taking other precautions.
The opening night film will be the war drama “Outpost.” It will be one of more than 100 features, documentaries and short films. The festival will be a hybrid of virtual screenings and drive-in showings.
Drive-in screenings will take place at sundown at three locations in the Long Beach Island area through June 20.
