A Fairlawn woman and animal control officials are flabbergasted after an alligator was found outside the woman's home.
A 4-foot alligator was sitting outside Robyn Miller's basement door when she came home. Animal control officers say they've never seen a wild gator in New Jersey.
The woman didn't believe the animal was real at first. She then armed herself with a broom before confronting the reptile.
"I went and poked it and it flinched," she says. "I was like ?OK, time to get on the phone and call 911. So I did that, and it seems like half the town showed up."
Miller is thankful her pet cat didn't become alligator food, as she commonly brings it outside to get fresh air.
Animal Control has no idea where the alligator came from. One theory is that it is a pet set loose at the nearby Saddle River.
