The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General says that the agency is investigating an incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Morris County in which a firearm was discharged.
The Attorney General’s Office says that the incident involved ICE ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) activity in Roxbury Township.
“There are no known injuries. Local law enforcement secured the scene with the cooperation of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is conducting an independent investigation,” Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport wrote in a statement.
Further details about the incident were not provided, but Roxbury police posted on Facebook around 9:30 a.m. that Landing Road was closed from Shippenport Road to Lakeside Boulevard.
“We recognize that matters of this nature raise concerns within our communities. Public safety remains our top priority. As Acting Attorney General for the State of New Jersey, it is my duty to protect the safety of residents of this state and uphold the Constitution. I will do everything in my power to fulfill this responsibility,” Davenport wrote.
