Gov. Mikie Sherrill says she wants New Jersey residents to know their rights when it comes to crackdowns by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The governor appeared on “The Daily Show” Wednesday night and was asked about the immigration enforcement raids happening across the country and the deadly shootings in Minnesota.

“We are not going to allow any ICE raids to be staged from state properties, and we are also going to be standing up a portal so people can upload all their cellphone videos and alert people. If you see an ICE agent in the street, get your phone out. We want to know,” Sherrill said.

Her idea is quickly catching on. Hudson County Executive Craig Guy just signed an executive order banning federal immigration authorities from county-owned property.

“Hudson County is one of the most diverse counties in America, and we are proud of that diversity. This order ensures that our residents are safeguarded from harassment and threats,” Guy wrote in a statement.
