One of the few supermarkets left in Newark's Ironbound neighborhood is set to close on June 16.
The Acme Market in Newark has not met its business goals, according to a spokeswoman for the store. The chain says it will be reinvesting its employees and resources to other locations.
Customers who enjoy the convenience of the multi-national grocery store say it will be a loss to the neighborhood, which lacks many alternatives. They say it will cost them time and money.
"Well you got to deal with traffic, gas and whatnot, and everywhere you look in Newark they close the roads," said Mustafa Perry.
The next closest food stores, C-Town and Shop Rite, are about 15 minutes away from Acme.
Acme says its human resource team will work with its employees and labor unions to further discuss the impact the closure will have on their jobs.
