The race for the 5th Congressional District in North Jersey is heating up.
Republican Rep. Scott Garrett has held the position for seven terms and is a senior member of the Budget Committee and the Financial Services Committee. He says bringing back jobs and the economy are top concerns and says he has a track record of working across the aisle.
However, some polls show Democratic challenger Josh Gottheimer is gaining ground.
Gottheimer worked for the Clinton administration and as a strategist for Microsoft. He says his private sector background will help him make successful deals across party lines.
"I'm going to work across the aisle," Gottheimer says. "I'm going to fight to help bring taxes down for them. I'm going to make sure that we invest in our community and fix our infrastructure."
Republican fundraiser and Hewlett Packard Executive Meg Whitman has announced her support for Gottheimer.
The two candidates will face off in the general election on Nov. 8.
