(AP) - A multivehicle crash on the New JerseyTurnpike killed five people and injured several others on Saturdayafternoon.
Turnpike Authority spokesman Joe Orlando said it appeared thatnine cars and a tractor-trailer were involved in the crash, whichoccurred in the southbound lanes near milepost 35 in Mount Laurel,just north of Interchange 4.
All those killed were in one car, which Orlando said burst intoflames during the crash. But it was not immediately known if theydied from injuries sustained in the accident or the fire.
The crash, which occurred shortly after 1 p.m., caused majortraffic delays in the area, and southbound traffic was diverted atInterchange 7A for several hours.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
