More than 45,000 customers were without power across New Jersey as of 5 p.m. Monday. JCP&L crews say recovery is underway, but estimates online show it could take as long as 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

News 12 was live at Stokes Street in Freehold, where the power lines were stretched out across the road.

Monday's rain and flooding did not help. The crews are unable to work in the parts of Eastern Monmouth and Ocean County that have been ravaged by floodwaters, like Route 35. The power crews are working 16-hour shifts and there are hundreds of contractors from all over the East Coast to help. That includes a team from Alabama.

News 12 heard from customers who have been without power since Friday - a combination of that heat wave and days of nasty storms.

If they don't get their power back until the late end of the estimate, it could be parts of six days without power.

“We see you, we hear you, we understand your frustration," said JCP&L spokesperson Chris Hoenig. "It is never easy to be without lights for this long and as hot as it has been the last few days. We completely understand your frustration. We're not stopping, we're going to keep going until we get to you and every last customer to get those lights back on.”
