The Union County Homicide Task Force is investigating a string of shootings in Elizabeth and Linden this week that community leaders are calling part of a street war.
From Wednesday to Friday, five shootings took place, and four of them were deadly.
On Wednesday night, 28-year-old Dennis Vega was shot and killed in the area of New Point Road and Seventh Street.
On Thursday just before 10 p.m., 28-year-old Jamil Payne was shot and killed in the area of South Park and Sixth Street.
About an hour later, police received a report of a shooting on Clark Place, where 32-year-old Kevin Nelson was killed.
Ten minutes after that, a shooting at Jackson Avenue and Julia Street sent a 24-year-old man to the hospital.
Another deadly shooting in Linden took place on Friday. The victim's identity has not been confirmed.
