Three men are facing charges after police say the brazen trio tried to pull off a home invasion in the middle of the day.
Police say the men tried to force their way into a home on Whitehall Street. They say one of the suspects forced an older man back from his door in an attempt to rob the home.
Police Sgt. Brian Metzler says Officer Nicholas Snyder was fortunately in the right place at the right time. Metzler says Snyder had been flagged down by a resident who said there was a suspicious vehicle sitting outside a home.
Metzler says Officer Snyder knew something was suspicious and jumped into action. The men were arrested on the spot. Police say they found drug paraphernalia, jewelry, electronics, gloves and burglary tools in the suspects' car.
Fair Lawn police say the two men in the car, 25-year-old Dariel Aybar, and 23-year-old Rafael Hidalgo, both of West New York, are facing burglary and conspiracy charges. They say the third suspect, 25-year-old Travis Villalobos, of West New York, was the one in the home. He is facing similar charges along with assault and false imprisonment charges.
