The Union County Prosecutor?s Office announced a major takedown Tuesday of the Latin Kings street gang.Authorities say about two dozen alleged members and associates of the gang were arrested Sunday night after a nine-month investigation. Police say much of the information law enforcement received was centered around the Xclusive Auto Repair on Cherry Street in Elizabeth. Sources say it was a center of activity for the Latin Kings in Union County.
Officials say the Latin Kings is a very structured and organized gang. They say it is the largest primarily Hispanic gang and is united under one leader. That is the reason police say the investigation took nine months and was aided by state, local and federal authorities.
Some of those arrested face racketeering charges.
More than 300 members of law enforcement and six SWAT teams were involved in the roundup.
