A water main break left multiple people without water in Baychester, closing Strang Avenue between Baychester . and De Reimer avenues.
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection says crews were on the scene working to determine the source of the leak. DEP also went door-to-door to assess any damage and hand out comptroller claims forms.
As crews continue to make repairs, a water-on-the-go station was installed on the west side of De Reimer Avenue. Residents say it was a much-needed relief, especially those who woke up at 6 a.m. to find their homes without water.
"I checked all of the sinks [and there was] no water," said Carl Johnson, one of the residents in the neighborhood. "I started asking my neighbors, 'Do you have water? Do you have water?' Everybody says they have no water. I walked around the corner, and here we are...It's horrible."
His neighbor, Johnson Akintayo, agreed.
"[It's] very terrible, very terrible," Akintayo said. "[We] can't have water to have a bath, can't have water to do anything. So, we're just waiting."
There is no word yet on when repairs will be complete.
