Dover police say there is no known threat to students or staff at Dover Middle School after investigating reports of threatening statements involving a student.

The department said reports of an alleged threat had circulated on social media, prompting concerns among parents and community members.

Police identified the juvenile involved and contacted the student and their parent or guardian. Investigators also coordinated with other law enforcement agencies, including the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Homeland Security Unit.

Following the investigation, police said there is no known threat to students, school staff or the public.

Officials said students can continue attending school as usual and families do not need to change their normal routines.

Police said they will maintain a visible presence in and around local schools as an additional reassurance measure.

The department said it remains in close communication with Dover Public Schools officials.
