Daytime ATM robbery near Rutgers medical campus prompts safety alert to community

A daytime assault and robbery at an ATM next to the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences campus on Tuesday afternoon has police searching for a suspect.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the busy intersection of Bergen Street and 12th Avenue.
Investigators say the victim, who is not affiliated with Rutgers University, was using the Bank of America ATM when an unknown individual approached, struck them and forcibly stole their belongings.
Following the violent encounter, the suspect jumped into a white, four-door Buick and sped away southbound on Bergen Street. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the attack.
At this time, authorities have a limited description of the suspect and the getaway driver.
