A former motel in Wall Township collapsed this morning, with the front of the building crumbling into the parking lot.

According to Wall Township Police, the building is the site of the former Economy Motel. The building has been unoccupied for about a year. Police said they received calls Wednesday morning stating that a portion of the building's facade had fallen off.

"Upon arrival, responding personnel observed an active partial collapse of the roof, resulting from damage sustained during the severe weather over the past week. While emergency crews were on scene evaluating the damage, a secondary portion of the roof collapsed," Wall Township Police said in a statement.

When they arrived, officers taped of the area and placed barricades around the building and the parking lot to "keep the public at a safe distance."

"Township officials and emergency personnel have notified the property owner and will continue to monitor the site to ensure the unsafe structure is properly addressed," police said.

Police said no one was in the building at the time and no injuries were reported.

This is a developing story.
