It's part of the utility company's incentive program for installing EV chargers, and Patchogue isn't the only municipality being rewarded.

Patchogue will receive $104,000 for going green.

The village is about to activate 16 electric vehicle chargers at the train station, and for that, PSEG Long Island is giving them a rebate check.

"Residents that live in apartments or just don't have access to home charging or even those who just need a charge while they're driving, these chargers are available to the public," said Paul DiBenedetto, with PSEG Long Island.

It's part of the utility company's incentive program for installing EV chargers, and Patchogue isn't the only municipality being rewarded.

"With the price of fuel now, this is the way to go," said Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri.

Earlier this year the village of Farmingdale installed 7 electric vehicle chargers in a municipal parking lot downtown. PSEG says it cut the village a $35,000 check for doing this.

"For homeowners thinking about getting an electric vehicle we have a lot of great rebates and incentives. Our residential charger rebate program offers up to $400 for the purchase of a level 2 charger," said DiBenedetto.

PSEG says last year the Town of Huntington received more than $100,000 for installing EV chargers.

The mayor of Patchogue says the money they're getting will benefit residents.

"When you drive around, you see in the paper today, the conditions of roads. This kind of money goes towards those repairs," said Pontieri.
