A New Jersey man was arrested in Passaic and extradited to New York State to face charges over an alleged scam involving gold bars, authorities said.

Jaspreet Singh, 28, was initially pulled over during a traffic stop in Wyoming County last week. Police discovered over $200,000 worth of gold bars in the back seat of his car, according to court documents.

Singh was released at the time, but further investigation revealed he had traveled to New York posing as a U.S. Marshal. Police say he demanded an elderly man pay him in gold bars.

Authorities tracked down Singh in Passaic and took him into custody. Officers say they also found child pornography on his phone.

Singh faces multiple charges in Wyoming County, including grand larceny and impersonating a police officer. He also faces possible immigration violations.
