Man accused of killing Sayreville councilwoman expected to appear in court this week
Rashid Ali Bynum is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing.
The man charged with killing Republican Sayreville Council Member Eunice Dwumfour in February is expected to possibly be seen in court this week after being extradited to New Jersey from Virginia.
Rashid Ali Bynum, 29, was arrested in Chesapeake, Virginia on May 30. He was charged with Dwumfour's murder, as well as unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose.
Bynum is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing.

Dwumfour, a Republican and Sayreville's first Black elected official, was shot multiple times inside her car outside her Sayreville apartment complex. Surveillance video captured a suspect fleeing the scene.
Investigators say they linked Bynum to the crime when they learned the two attended the same church group and she had his cellphone in her contacts. Dwumfour had been counseling Bynum in her work as a pastor and helped him as she would travel down to Virginia as a part of her missionary trips.
It’s unclear exactly when Bynum will be seen in court, but it’s suspected it could be sometime this week following his extradition last Thursday.
