Two Newark police officers were injured Tuesday after a 30-minute pursuit ended in a collision in Irvington.
Police say the chase began in Newark when officers responded to a report of shots fired near Riverview Court and Chapel Street at around 10:30 a.m. Once police arrived, the suspect fled in his car, prompting the officers to follow him, authorities say.
According to police, the officers followed the suspect for at least five miles before he crashed into the unmarked police vehicle and a third car at the intersection of Taft and Grove Streets in Irvington.
The suspect was taken into custody and police have not yet released his name. The officers involved in the collision were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
