Two Jersey City firefighters suffered heat-related injuries while battling a three-alarm blaze Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out in a four-story home near Manilla and First avenues. It quickly spread to other adjacent homes.
Fire officials say two firefighters were taken to a hospital for treatment, while others were treated at the scene.
"Just the sheer amount of work and amount of energy needed to perform their duties... with all that gear on, it takes about five minutes to get dehydrated," says Jersey City Fire Chief Darren Rivers.
The Red Cross is helping residents affected by the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
