A Passaic detective is under investigation Wednesday after a YouTube video surfaced that shows him allegedly telling a Latino boy he's going to deport his family.
Detective Sgt. Roy Bordamente is now on desk duty after Passaic residents accused him of targeting members of the Latino community.
Residents gathered Tuesday night in front of Passaic City Hall to voice their concerns about Bordamente. They claim they are being given tickets for blocking public walkways, but maintain that they are only standing on the sidewalk.
Passaic Mayor Alex Blanco released a statement saying, "As an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, I hear the concerns. I am asking for calm and restraint so that the city's internal affairs office has the time necessary to gather all information and complete the review necessary to make smart and well thought out decisions. The internal affairs office is already in the posession of the video, and they have begun their review."
The Passaic police chief pointed out that the video was made 11 months ago and no one filed a complaint then. He says he is waiting for all the details to come out. Until then, he says he stands by his officers.
