The Passaic Planning Board has approved an application for a six-story, 106-unit apartment building on Aspen Place.

A Planning Board representative confirmed to News 12 that the board voted to approve the application at its Oct. 14 meeting.

According to a public hearing notice published Oct. 2, State Street Owners LLC proposed the building for property at 1-33 and 35-51 Aspen Place.

The applicant's notice states that the project would involve demolishing the administrative offices of the Passaic City Housing Authority, while the existing Alfred Speer Village apartment complex would remain as part of the proposed development.

Plans also call for surface parking, drainage, utilities and other site improvements.

The Housing Authority has separately outlined broader plans to redevelop Alfred Speer Village, including construction of new housing and rehabilitation of existing apartments.

The conditions of the Planning Board's approval and a construction timeline have not been confirmed.
