Youth groups from two Newark houses of worship gathered together Sunday to hand out nearly 100 Thanksgiving baskets they prepared earlier this week.
Kids from Temple Oheb Shalom of South Orange and Franklin St. John United Methodist Church in Newark combined their holiday volunteer projects to provide families with turkeys for Thanksgiving, as well as all the trimmings. The church donated the baskets, the temple donated the food they used to fill them, and a community group called Newark Now donated the turkeys.
Debi Hall-Dean of Franklin St. John Church says the youth group was planning to donate the turkeys and whatever else they could afford when some of the young members decided they should provide others with the sort of Thanksgiving they have. By combining their efforts, the youth groups were able to donate full Thanksgiving feasts.
