One of the young victims of Friday?s alleged hit-and-run in Jersey City died Saturday.
Moeez Saquib, 7, died early in the morning at University Hospital in Newark from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
Police say Saquib and his 5-year-old sister were in the back of their mother?s car when it was hit by an Escalade while she backed out of their home. The two children were ejected from the vehicle.
Police say the driver of the Escalade, 20-year-old Allan Serles, crashed into other vehicles after hitting the family?s Kia Sportage. He later turned himself in to police and is facing a number of charges. Officials say the charges will be upgraded because of the boy?s death.
The children?s classmates and neighbors say they are shocked by the tragedy.
The little girl remains in critical condition.
Police say the mother may face charges as well because the children were not wearing seatbelts in the car.
