A seal pup was rescued in Long Beach Island after being attacked by a shark on Christmas.
Officials from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine say they found the young harbor seal on the beach in Surf City. They say the seal suffered from a large laceration on his left hip, and multiple smaller wounds on his abdomen and around his tail.
The seal was transported to MMSC for medical treatment. Officials say oral and topical medications were started to prevent infection.
The seal, who weighed 57.4 pounds at intake, is currently resting in Pen A of the Intensive Care Unit, officials say.
