The Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center has opened a new exhibition highlighting the baseball legend’s connections with U.S. presidents as part of the nation’s America 250 celebration.
“Yogi: All the President’s Man — An American Life in the National Pastime” is on view through Sept. 13 and explores Berra’s interactions with every president from Harry Truman to Donald Trump over nearly seven decades.
The exhibition features presidential memorabilia including baseballs signed by Richard Nixon, George W. Bush and Barack Obama; a bat signed by Donald Trump; personal correspondence from Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton; and a state dinner menu signed by Berra, Ronald Reagan and King Fahd of Saudi Arabia. It also includes 18 photographs of presidents from William Howard Taft through Obama throwing ceremonial first pitches.
Berra’s ability to connect with people across political parties and generations reflected the unifying role of baseball in American life, according to the museum.
The exhibition is included with museum admission and was supported in part by an America 250 grant from Passaic County.
The Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center is a nonprofit sports education organization located on the campus of Montclair State University.
