Bridgeport
residents discovered headstones near a Bridgeport
splash pad Wednesday – one
of which belongs to
a World War II veteran.
Pedro Cruz
says he saw two headstones lying on the ground off Boston Avenue behind Luis
Martin School.
A local
genealogist says the headstones could be connected to a headstone business that
used to be in the area.
Cruz says
that headstones should never be left lying around in a public space out of
respect to the deceased.
“They’re trying to rest in peace
and people are disturbing them,” says Cruz.
The
genealogist traced the veteran’s headstone to Loyalty
Cemetery in Fairfield.
Police
have removed the headstones while they investigate.
