An Ocean County woman has been awarded $10,000 in a civil lawsuit against her former high school teacher who she says shared explicit photos of her online without consent.
Kaitlyn Cannon told News12 New Jersey that her former math teacher at Wall High School, Christopher Doyle, posted intimate images she had sent privately to her partner at the time on a website dedicated to cyber exploitation.
Doyle resigned from Wall High School in 2018 after the allegations surfaced. He currently works as a teacher at Perth Amboy High School.
The school districts did not respond to requests for comment.
Doyle's law firm said in a statement that he was found liable for republishing the photos but not for intentionally harming Cannon.
Cannon said she hopes her case sends a warning about the dangers of sharing private photos, even with a partner. Victims of similar exploitation should speak up, she said.
