The snow and below-average temperatures caused several water main breaks around New Jersey on Tuesday.
Emergency crews are working through cold temperatures to patch a break on Keith Jeffries Avenue in Cranford. Water was seen spewing from the pipe, forming a sheet of ice near South Union and Lexington avenues.
A resident told News 12 that his street is prone to flooding.
"Right now, I'm digging a trench in front of my house just because the water is all pooled up in my driveway, and I don't have a Zamboni to make a nice skating arena,” says Hunter Schlesinger. “So, I'm gonna dig a trench, and hopefully it runs down to the drains.”
Cranford police are asking people to be careful when driving through the area.
Crews have also been working on a water main break in Elizabeth. Officials say it happened at Hamilton Place and Jefferson Avenue around 4 a.m. The break caused ponding on the roadway.
And a third water main break was being repaired on Bender Drive in Clifton. The Passaic Valley Water Commission says the break may cause low pressure, discolored water or a temporary loss of service.
The company says that once repairs are finished, customers should run cold water from a faucet at the lowest level of their home until it runs clear.
