Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron stepped down on Thursday amid his recent legal troubles.

News 12 recently reported Byron pleaded guilty in a health care fraud scheme with two other Wildwood city officials enrolling in the state health benefits program without being eligible. Byron was charged with official misconduct and falsifying public records.

Byron will be on probation for three years and have to pay tens of thousands of dollars in fines.
