Drivers who haven't removed the salt from their cars following the recent snowstorm could be at risk for mechanical issues.
According to AAA, treatments for clearing pavement in the winter can cause corrosion of brake and fuel lines if they sit for too long.
"The cars are very salty. The roads are very salty. So, it always helps to get a wash during this time, especially underbody, all around so you prevent rust on the car too," said Danny Mekhiel, a manager at Spotless Hand Car Wash in North Brunswick. "Don't let it pile on too much on there, and you'll thank yourself in the future."
AAA said drivers who don't clean their vehicles after a storm may face costly repairs. They advise customers to get a wash after every winter storm.
"I saw it happen to me last year," said Abdul Zahid, a customer at Spotless Hand Car Wash. "My exhaust from underneath started getting crippled because of salt. So, I had to get a whole new exhaust. It cost more money."
