Nominations for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards are out. R&B star and Maplewood native Sza is among the top contenders with nominations in six categories, including for Video and Song of the Year for her hit “Kill Bill.”

But the Jersey girl will have to shake off some stiff competition. Taylor Swift has the most nominations this year with eight nominations in total. The stars will be back in Newark this September. This is the second year in a row that the award show will be held at the Prudential Center.

And today, Aug. 9, is Whitney’s Houston’s 60th birthday. Houston was born at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. The Whitney Houston Service Area in Union opened last month in honor of the late legendary singer.
