Residents didn't have to go far to see some of the largest mammals in their natural environment.
Whales have been spotted along the Jersey Shore in Belmar over the past several days.
Recent restrictions put out by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission increased the population of the baitfish, bringing the hungry whales closer to shore.
Scientists say humpback whales will migrate to Florida and the Caribbean before returning to the area next year, as long as there is a large source of food.
