West Paterson is cracking down on litterbugs.
West Paterson Mayor Pat Lepore says he is tired of people disrespecting his community. That?s why a new borough ordinance bans throwing garbage from vehicles. Those who do will now face steep penalties, including fines up to $1,000 and community service. Repeat offenders could also face jail time.
?We are going to send the message that you cannot dump on West Paterson,? Lepore said. ?You cannot throw garbage out your windows in West Paterson.?
Officials say the biggest littering problem is along the ramps leading to Interstate 80 on one side of town and Route 46 on the other side.
