As we fall back into News12, we pay a visit to an iconic landmark in the city of West New York.
Miller Stadium has been the site of many celebrations, cultural celebrations and events, says Jonathan Castaneda, president of the Board of Education.
Back in the day, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig played on this field. Miller Stadium opened in 1914. Since then, countless players have played here at the major league level.
Back in 1985, Bruce Springsteen picked this location as part of his music video for "Glory Days."
Recently, Mayor Albio Sires announced that new development is in store for West New York. This is all part of the mayor's plan for a $35 million, 6-acre, state-of-the-artrec center, including a renovation of a middle school, amenities and sports centers, hundreds of parking spaces and more.
"We're building an indoor swimming pool, having basketball courts, track, soccer fields," says Commissioner Adam Parkinson.
The proposed rec center will be finalized in 2026.
