A historic Little League run continues tonight as Bayonne takes the field in the opening round of the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Bayonne Little League is the Metro Region champion after defeating Connecticut to earn a spot in the tournament.
The team is only the fifth from Hudson County to win a state title since 1960 and just the second to reach the Little League World Series.
The West New York Americans were the last Hudson County team to advance that far, finishing as Little League World Series runner-up in 1966.
Fans in Bayonne are celebrating the achievement and sharing their excitement at the city’s well-known Broadway Diner ahead of tonight’s game. Four buses filled with fans and family members left Bayonne this morning for the several-hour ride to Williamsport.
