Hundreds of students at Memorial High School in West New York staged a walkout to demand action from lawmakers on gun violence.
The demonstration was held Thursday. Sen. Bob Menendez and Sen. Cory Booker joined in on the event.
Menendez vowed things would change.
"How can we live in a society where we regulate everything from a license to drive a car to lottery tickets, but we cannot even simply require background checks for assault weapons capable of committing mass murder,” Menendez said.
The walkout was one of several held in New Jersey over the last few days in the wake of several recent mass shootings – including one at a school in Texas that left 19 students and two teachers dead.
