With three state championships in the last four years, the West Essex High School field hockey team knows how to win. And now the girls on the team are taking on another tough opponent – the coronavirus.
The team has started a BINGO card fundraiser. They have raised more than $5,000 and have used the money to feed health care workers by purchasing meals form local restaurants.
“We like to build a strong community of women and people surrounding us that can really help make a difference in the world and we really want to show people that, ‘You know what? During this time, we don’t have to just sit back and not do anything. We can stand up and make a change,’” says team captain Rebecca DeSiderio.
The girls have had 200 meals delivered to hospitals in Bergen, Essex and Morris counties.
More information about the fundraiser can be found on the team's
Instagram page.
